Prince Charles, climate change and his speechwriter

Prince Charles popped up in the news again this week describing climate change deniers as “headless chickens”. Last year he attacked “corporate lobbyists” and climate deniers for turning the earth into a “dying patient”.

Whoever is writing his speech is aware of the power of the metaphor. To quote, Joe Romm of Climate Progress, the metaphor and extended metaphor is a powerful political device. It sticks in the memory – remember Reagan describing Russia as the “bear in the woods” – and immediately elicits an emotional buy-in from the listeners.

Here is my blog on the Prince Charles, Lady Gaga and climate change from last year.
